High or Low?

When I started to collect fabrics for this quilt, I had something of a "let's see what happens" attitude. My goal with the quilt is for it to "sparkle," and my theory was that a lot of contrast in the quilt would do that.

So, is this block high contrast, or low contrast?

I think the star almost disappears, but there's still plenty of contrast in the fabrics themselves. Same with this one:

Cute, eh? High contrast or low, they're sure fun! 5 down, 20 to go.

  1. The blue star does disappear a little, but it is because of the white patches in the blue print. This bothers some people, but not me. The star looks as though it is twinkling. I really like this block. The second block is not extremely high contrast, but if I stand back a bit from the monitor screen, the contrast is more apparent. Don't know if this translates to the "in person" block. Another nice star.

    1. Good point about the white patches, Mary Ellen. I like the idea that the star "twinkles!"

I'm starting to think that balancing the final layout is going to be an interesting challenge!

  3. I think these both work well, it is so good to see such a variety of fabrics, I only have the local market that sells fabric near me and it is either floral or dots I have told myself no more flowers and hope they start to get different fabrics.

    1. Thanks, Margaret. I gather you have not yet ventured into the wonderful world of online fabric shopping. It can be a blessing and a curse!

  5. The fabric is great. I especially like the blue star. It's going to be interesting to see it when together.

    1. Thanks, Jillian, I really like the blue one too. For some reason it makes me laugh. I have been thinking that "ebullient" is a good word for it. Especially since the name of the fabric is Bubble Flowers. :D

Ok, I know that's a stretch unless you're a wiseacre language nut like me, but I can't bring myself to delete it.

    2. Another language nut here. Ebullient is good. Insouciant also comes to mind.

I'm told Blogger has been bouncing some comments, so if it happens to you I'm sorry! But the settings look right so I can't explain it. In any case, thanks for reading!
