A Start on Christmas

Ever since the deluge of "Christmas in July" marketing emails, and many blog posts too, I've been completely off the idea of Christmas. I understand that the fabric companies need to give you lead time to make your Christmas projects, but I just can't think about Christmas when it's hot and sunny outside. It's my conditioning. But, now that we've had a couple of cold and rainy days, suddenly, a cozy Christmas project seems just the thing!

So, this is a new-ish cross stitch project, "A Kiss For Snowman" from Dimensions Gold Petites. I say new-ish because I actually started it last year, but it was so similar to my Lima Beans project that I put it away again. It is stitched on 18 ct aida in crosses and half-crosses with varying weights of thread, similar to other Dimensions Gold Petites projects that I have done. The stitching will finish at 6" square, and the piece is destined for the centre of a Christmas pillow. The last Dimensions Gold project took me 5 months, so I'm not sure that I'll finish this by Christmas, but at least it gets me in the right mood!

  1. you have patience to cross stitch, it is one technique that i cannot get into, never mind if not finished for the Christmas we get one every year!

  3. Do you listen to Christmas carols while you sew? Lol. Isn't it funny how you have to be in the mood for Christmas. You find the best patterns, Kiss for Snowman is going to be lovely!!

    1. LOL, oh no, Rachael! I have a hard enough time with the Christmas music that is piped into every store -- even the parking lots, to discourage loitering teenagers! But, I will usually listen to The Nutcracker a couple of times before the big day. Not yet though...

  4. There's nothing like the cozy feeling that working on a Christmas project on a cold rainy day can give you. Bravo to you for pulling it out this early. I generally start my Christmas projects (or Thanksgiving! etc.) far too late and consequently don't finish them in time for the holiday for many years. Seems to be a common 'needle'-work related complaint! Good luck with yours, and enjoy listening to The Nutcracker when that time comes.

    1. Well, it's all weather-dependent, you know. It must still be too nice out your way! ;) Thanks for the well-wishes!

  5. Interested to see where you began with this one. Think I would have begun with red too. The white bits are going to be quite challenging I should think. I'm thinking of Christmas projects too, but can't rely on the weather getting cooler to give me impetus!

  6. Hi Jillian. Fortunately, the white parts are not stitched in this project -- they just leave the white aida to show. Maybe your programming is reversed, and hotter weather reminds you of Christmas?

I'm told Blogger has been bouncing some comments, so if it happens to you I'm sorry! But the settings look right so I can't explain it. In any case, thanks for reading!
