Sunshine Flimsy

I finally got it all together today:

60" x 81" (152 x 206 cm)

When I first edited these photos several hours ago, I was having doubts. But now that I see it again, it makes me laugh. So that is a good thing! Silly and fun, I would say.

On the whole, it is darker than I expected, considering it's supposed to be a yellow and white quilt. But, it's probably more practical this way. And it is meant to be functional.

I didn't put it up on the design wall for the layout, because it is pretty big. So, these two inverse-match sunflower blocks ended up beside each other right the middle of the quilt. This was the lesser evil, because once again, those ginghams were very eye-catching, so they had to stay separated.

I hope to get this quilted and bound by the end of the month. Fingers crossed!

  1. So cheery and bright! Love, love, love the value changes in the yellows. I've been seeing more and more yellow make it into my fabric stacks lately. Will see how that works out. I used to use yellow as my background color all the time!

    1. Thanks, Terry! Fun, and hopefully easy. I just have a simple plan...

  3. This gives such interesting perspective reversals between the white and coloured shapes - even more interesting, I imagine in reality - especially when quilted. Well done!

    1. Thanks, Jillian! I can't wait to get this quilted and washed a couple of times. I think the contrast will be reduced, and it will all come into tune.

  4. Your yellow and white quilt is super fun with all the different shades of yellow. The curved churn dash blocks are a happy look to a traditional block. It definitely is a sunshine quilt.

  5. I love this - I hardly ever use yellow - but this looks so fun and fresh

  6. It made me smile too! I like the wonky churn dash blocks, like the balance between the yellows and whites, and like the little filler strips.

  7. Very wonky, but I like it. It's a modern twist on an old fashioned pattern. I'm usually against modern twists of any sort, but I kind of like this. I completely sympathize with your block matching problem, as I've run into it myself many, many times.

  9. Lovely, Monica. I'm surprised, too, that this quilt is so (relatively) dark. Looking for a while I notice no white with yellow prints. So the darker blocks are two yellow prints, none have two white chocolate rings. I wouldn't have noticed until you wrote about it. Something to consider.
Love your writing. It's adds to the cheerfulness. Congratulations on a great top.

    1. Thanks, Ann! I think what happened was that four of those large prints are actually quite brown and orange. When I paired them with white, it made them seem darker, so I started pairing the other darker fabrics with light yellow rather than white. So the average shifted darker than the original plan. But, I think the challenge is to make it work with what you have, AND it was meant to be an experimental learning process, so that will just be something to remember in future.

If I knew exactly how it would turn out beforehand, it would be boring! The funnest thing about working with prints is that you never exactly know what will happen. It's endlessly interesting, I think!

I know you're not being critical, and I'm not being critical either. I'm just, you know, observing and hopefully learning something!

I'm told Blogger has been bouncing some comments, so if it happens to you I'm sorry! But the settings look right so I can't explain it. In any case, thanks for reading!
