Winner!

So, this is the second time I've said I'm taking a blog break, and then posted again within a week. I'm just going to stop trying to be structured all together!

I won a prize in Pets on Quilts 2017! Olive and Wilma were not able to beat the devious Molly, who cannot possibly be as innocent as she looks. But, they won a great participation prize from Eagle's Wings Quilts. The prize was a generous full set of papers for the English paper pieced Castor and Pollux. But sadly, my hand stitching problems continue, so Cathy agreed to send me her traditionally pieced (yes, traditional now means by machine!) pattern for Sisters Across the Miles instead:

I really love that sunburst effect! And since Olive & Wilma are my sister's cats, it seemed very appropriate.

Plus, as a bonus, Cathy sent me her pattern for Nine in the Pond as well:

It's really pretty, isn't it? In fact, I started tinkering right away with a colour scheme for Sisters that was inspired by Pond!

I have been thinking that it would be great to get it done for Pets on Quilts next year! I know, it is most likely a pipe dream. In any case, big thanks to Cathy for the lovely prize, and to Snoodles too for organizing such a great event.

Now, can you believe it's already September? That means it's time for a new colour for RSC. September is orange, and orange is just another word for cheddar!

It's been a looong time since you've seen this project, the Cheddar Broken Dishes from the October 2016 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting.
Back when RSC was blue for July, I made a big push to finish all the indigo HSTs for the broken dishes units.

1,176 indigo HSTs are now sewn, papers removed, dog ears clipped, and neatly pressed!

I still need 60 more, but they are not going to be indigo.

And, as you see, I have eight different cheddars to work with. Those are all now cut, so with luck things should really start to move.

It's a simple design, but I think the impact is going to be huge!
Click here to see the rest of the RSC offerings this week. Have a great weekend!

  1. I understand about wanting to unplug one day then just having to post the next. I managed to not post for 2 whole months but that did not stop me from reading others over the summer. Your cheddar is looking lovely.

  5. Both of those patterns look like they could be fun! I really like your cheddar/broken dishes blocks, too. I don't think I really have anything that would be considered cheddar in my stash, but I may have to start looking next time I'm at the quilt shop!

  6. Wilma and Olive deserve congratulations - even if Molly did beat them this time! Nine in the Pond looks a neat quilt to make, I could perhaps add this one to my list of possible projects.

  8. Two lovely quilt patterns and it's funny to think that traditional now means machine sewn. Your cheddar blocks are fantastic. So many HSTs!

  9. The cheddar and indigo are wonderful together and, of course, have a lengthy fabric history. Love it!

  11. Congratulations winning although I think of you as a winner all the time! I love your inspiration doodle/plan and hey, pipe dreams are a-okay. Who knows, sometimes they do come to fruition! Love the cheddar and yes, what an impact those blocks will make! What a heck of a lot of HSTs you stitched! Bummer about the continuing hand issue though.

    1. Thanks, Terry! Yes I think this year I will have to do a tally of how many HSTs I've made. It's a high number!

    1. Thank you! It does have something of that flavour, doesn't it? I'm thinking the Sisters pattern could go even more French country. But I don't want to buy fabric, so I'll have to look for something similar in my stash.

  17. So much to like about this post. You won something! Fabuloso. Nice patterns, too. Ones you will actually make. Double goodness. I love all things cheddar (including the actual cheese although I favor traditional Enlish cheddar that is ivory in color and aged) so your cheddar blocks really caught my eye. I have been working on a pattern by Victoria Findlay Wolfe, "Framework." Since I am winging it as regards color scheme and fabric selection, it is keeping my interest torqued up. Plus the weather has turned more fall-ish. Time to get mums for my front porch planters.

  19. Another mispost here by me - I probably failed to press the final 'post' button after commenting on this post, then being asked to log in again. I frequently forget Blogger requires a final'post' action after the comment-post-login process. Anyway - I was excited about your win - and love the sisters pattern and it's appropriateness. Well done you.

I'm really curious to see what the colour other than indigo is. The orange and indigo looks great - so am anticipating great things. Glad you broke your break!

    1. Thanks so much, Jillian! Really, it has been superhuman forbearance on my part not to have jumped right into the "exceptions" before establishing the pattern. But I'm hoping it will be worth the wait!

I'm told Blogger has been bouncing some comments, so if it happens to you I'm sorry! But the settings look right so I can't explain it. In any case, thanks for reading!
